My other creative outlet
I have a colored pencil piece hanging in a local art show. Very fun! The opening was tonight so of course we went to see it hanging on the wall.
Mind you, there's no actual quality of talent required for this one. If you're a local artist, you can put something in the show. But you can see the picture on my art blog if you're interested. It's the one of the grapes.

How can you say that no talent is required for the grape one? I'm very impressed.
Congrats on having one up in the show.

I first read that as "I have a colored pencil hanging in a local art show". How very post-modern, I thought
Your pictures are great. I am deeply envious of talent like that.

Re: My other creative outlet
Thank you both. But honestly, colored pencil is easy to learn and to do.

Sherry, your pictures are fantastic! I wish I could do that. I have to say my other creative writing involves anything with paints and pastels. It's so relaxing, and I get right into it. I also love scrapbooking and anything else crafty.

Yes, well, I can't agree with that because I can't draw ANYTHING. I wish I could. I'd love to draw my impressions of the characters in my manuscript. That would be so cool.
Sherry, I love your drawings. You are doing so well. And congratulations on the art show too. Are there prizes? Or is the prize just having your work on the wall?

Re: My other creative outlet
Honestly, I can't draw, either. I can just color. I'd like to take a drawing course or something so that I could just draw pictures out of my head, but I need a reference photo and I often trace outlines and shapes to get started.
Funny, as children we are conditioned to think that tracing is "cheating" and not as valid as freehand drawing. But in the world of professional artists, I've discovered that none of that is considered very relevant. What matters is what you ultimately do with those outlines and shapes, not how you achieve them in the first place. Live and learn, I guess.
The problem is that much of what I would really, really like to draw is fantasy or science fiction based, and there just aren't that many reference photos of dragons, aliens, or other worlds...

Re: My other creative outlet
As I said, I'd like to draw my impression of the non-human characters of my series. I say this as if I need something else to do. I'm crazy.
Anyway, I was thinking of overlaying some drafting linen onto a photo of one of my cats to get the outline of his face and then putting that over the top of a human face and seeing what I can come up with.
Not sure that I have the ability to make the necessary changes though. I'll let you know if I end up trying this.

Re: My other creative outlet
As others have proclaimed, regardless of how you get there, you have done a wonderful thing, an amazing thing, an awe-inspiring thing.
I have never really drawn nor have I been drawn to drawing (in my family the roles are VERY clear, I am words, my sister is art, my brother is mechanics).
I did spend some time in 1979 with a woman who drew and painted and arted her way through a thousand experiences. She pointed out that I didn't really draw what was there, it was as if I wasn't looking; that has shown up in my writing where I've noticed I tend to leave out the physical descriptions of my characters and their surroundings, thereby making it diffcult to tell one individual from another...
Hm, returning from my seque, the art is delightful. I've bookmarked the site where you post and I shall continue to check in and see.
Frankly, scarlet, the grapes are delicious.
