I remember Galactica 1980... when they finally arrived on Earth. Don't remember much more than that.

Oh, I loved the mini-series! We watched it about a month ago and thoroughly enjoyed it! Very different to the original series, but so what? It's new and modern, loved it! Now waiting for the series to start on Australian TV, it's coming soon, so I can't wait!

Re: New Battlestar Galactica series

Unfortunately for me Jay, I *do* remember more about '1980'.

They had Galactia find Earth so they could save money by always sending scouts down and having 95% of program based on cheap Earth scenes. No fun space battles with the Cylons anymore, or finding strange new worlds. They never landed, or settled, or tried to contact Earth - yet were never discovered by NASA floating around up there. Just keep sending scouts down to reconnoiter! emoticon And everyone from the original cast was cut, except Lorne Greene as Commander Adama who they always showed in the bridge, getting the scouting reports and sending in new commands. No Apollo. No Starbuck. No Boomer. Very bland and horrible.

I even remember one particularly bad episode, where the Cylons also found Earth, but had the bad fortune to land on Halloween, so they virtually ignored, and left frustrated, and humiliated!

Truly horrible!

Well, we're into full swing into this series on Australian TV and I'm LOVIN' it!

Very clever, modern, updated, suspenseful... I can't wait to find out who else is a Cylon! emoticon

I'm quite thoroughly addicted to this show. Even when I have homework to do, I'll work it around Gallactica. Taped every episode so far, bar last week 'cause I wasn't home. (And damnit, I'm annoyed! I loved the episode so much it made me cry.) I realise it must be hard to adjust in a change of gender for a main character - like it would be if... Captain Kirk suddenly became female - but not knowing a thing of the original series, I'm loving every minute of this new one. And I'd say Starbuck is one of my favourite characters. Along with everyone else. emoticon

Only one day until Wednesday night rolls around again... emoticon

Re: New Battlestar Galactica series

There's an article in today's Wired News applauding the series. I agree with most of what the guy says, but why does he have to preface it with this:

"While most sci-fi -- whether on TV, in movies or books -- remains aimed toward science geeks or overgrown adolescents..."

Come on, that might have been true 50 years ago, but I think SF has come a long way since the pulps. Interesting that he thinks he know enough to generalize about "most sci-fi" when what he says actually shows he's woefully out of date.

The article is at http://www.wired.com/news/digiwood/0,1412,67044,00.html
in case anyone wants to read it.
