posticon Is Humor Hard?

Is writing Humor the most difficult genre of all? It's very popular in TV and movies. But not in literature. The Humor sections of most bookstores are very thin, and mostly contain Garfield the Cat cartoon books, political slamming, and off-color jokes.

Why?

Do people not want to write humor? Or do people not want to READ humor? Or can people just not write a good humor novel? Does humor have to have an element of drama, suspense, or action to maintain the story for 80,000 words?

Riddle me this!

Re: Is Humor Hard?

Hmm. I can't talk for others, of course.

Personally, I have a very hard time with humor. That's because although I can laugh at myself, I dislike most coarse and plain stupid jokes. I'd hate to do that in my stories.

So, I don't write humor, because deep inside I believe I can't. Heck, I fall for most April Fool's pranks, anyway. emoticon
