Star Trek News

I've just heard that Enterprise will be wrapping up in May and that there is NO new Star Trek program planned.

Egads. That's a weird prospect.

Re: Star Trek News

I heard that Enterprise was in danger for quite some time because of low ratings. I guess this is the nail in the coffin for Trek TV.

However, there is talk of another Trek movie. From what I heard is that Paramount is looking at a project that could become a Star Trek 'prequel'. No further word on that.

There is also talk of a 'Star Fleet Command' project. The only thing I cna gather from this rumour is that it might be somehow based on the PC game of the same title.

I'll dig around and see if I can come up with anything.

Here's the press release:

 02.02.2005
Star Trek: Enterprise Cancelled!

After four seasons, Star Trek: Enterprise has reached the end of its mission ...
PRESS RELEASE

UPN and Paramount Network Television have jointly announced that this will be the final season of Star Trek: Enterprise on UPN. [Production will continue until the end of this season, which will finish shooting in March.] The series finale will air on Friday, May 13, 2005.

"Star Trek has been an important part of UPN's history, and Enterprise has carried on the tradition of its predecessors with great distinction," said Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, UPN. "We'd like to thank Rick Berman, Brannon Braga and an incredibly talented cast for creating an engaging, new dimension to the Star Trek universe on UPN, and we look forward to working with them, and our partners at Paramount Network Television, on a send-off that salutes its contributions to The Network and satisfies its loyal viewers."

David Stapf, President of Paramount Network Television, said, "The creators, stars and crew of Star Trek: Enterprise ambitiously and proudly upheld the fine traditions of the Star Trek franchise. We are grateful for their contributions to the legacy of Trek and commend them on completing nearly 100 exciting, dramatic and visually stunning episodes. All of us at Paramount warmly bid goodbye to Enterprise, and we all look forward to a new chapter of this enduring franchise in the future."

A prequel to the original "Star Trek" series, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE premiered on UPN on Sept. 26, 2001, and aired for its first three seasons on Wednesdays (8:00-9:00PM, ET/PT). On Oct. 8, 2004, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE moved into its current time on Fridays (8:00-9:00PM, ET/PT). Through its four-year run, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE produced a total of 98 episodes and earned four Emmy Awards.

That's terrible news!

What is it with Star Trek! It always takes a season or two to get the new series to the point where the characters are starting to develop and get more interesting, and then as soon as it does, they start muttering about low ratings and before you know it... Bam - they pull the plug - or eject the Warp Core, I guess I should say.

It almost makes you mad enough to swear off Star Trek - well, except for the whole severe addiction and hideous withdrawal symptoms thing.

Well, they did say that they're looking forward to another series. They just need to find the right formula. Enterprise wasn't it.
What they need to do is something revolving around Star Fleet Academy (as was considered by Paramount at one point), or a series focusing on Sulu and the Excelsior. George Takai did say he would do a Sulu/Excelsior series.

I suppose an Academy series would largely depend on what kind of stories they write for it.

Personally, I would like to see a Sulu/Excelsior series that returns to the era following the first 6 movies.

I hope people are still reading this.

What would be great is a series based around maybe a federation civil war or the hyrogen attack the federation (THe hirogen do border and have come close to fed space)
Talk of the new movie said that it would envolve 7 0f 9 and Picard.

Actually the 'new' movie is coming soon and it's the early days of the Star Trek/Enterprise we all know and love.

james t. kirk and Spock!~

It will be interesting to see the actor who plays evil Sylar on Heroes will portray Mr. Spock.

Waiting anxiously for this one!
