Current Fantasy Works

So,

Who is working on a fantasy story currently?

I'm revising and editing a Contemporary Fantasy story called "Hands of a Healer" and then if I can't think of any other appropriate stalling tactics, I will go back to work on my Dark Fantasy novel. I'm stuck in the climax with no idea how to resolve a number of issues to get to my already planned ending.

I'm well over 52,000 words, but I feeling overwhelmed and freaked out about tying up all the story threads and working out these few problems that have presented themselves. I had planned to just forge ahead, but I already wrote myself into a corner that I had to back up about 3500 words to rectify and now I'm nervous to go any further without a better game plan.

I think I'm looking at re-examining my chapter outlines and doing chapter outlines for my last 5 chapters. I had stopped doing them in the interest of pounding out my story, but now I think that it's where I went wrong.

I'm writing a fantasy novel, sequel to my first one. emoticon

I used to write just where my mood took me, but I have learned the value of planning the plot. That's why I'm doing a complete rewrite of what I have.

Live and learn... emoticon

What was your first novel about, Firlefanz?
Was it a NaNoWriMo Project? Have you tried sending it out to an editor yet?

Jule, no, it was a long project. I started with a jumble of ideas that I slotted into six novels eventually. I've been working on them for five years now.

My first novel (the title translates to "The Dwarvenmaster's Sword" ) is about a sword and the young man who will eventually wield it. It follows first the making of the sword and how it's robbed from the dwarf who made it. Then it tells about the youth of my MC, Andert of Lar Elien, who befriends the dwarf. The climax of the novel is the fight Andert has to face in order to win back the sword for his friend.

With a bit of help from my brother-in-law I found an agent who agreed to market my novel and series. So, it's been making the rounds among German publishers since about July last year. I'm practicing patience on that...

How exciting, Firle!

But I do know how awful waiting can be. The only cure is to write, write, write!

Your story sounds really interesting. My husband would love it. He has an affinity for dwarves, they've been longtime favorite characters of his. He'll read any novel that features a dwarf - and he's not even an avid reader like me.

Ah, the dwarf features in the first and fourth novels of the series, and a heroine joins in the second one. emoticon

What's your story about? Where is it based, and how do you work magic into our world? I think that could be quite difficult.

Well, as to where, I'm quite non-specific about that. It could pretty much be anywhere in North America - it's rare in my stories that I pin down a location.

My main character is a young med student. The fantasy element comes into play with what would actually be described as a Strange Phenomenon. Something that some people purport actually happen but that most people are quite sceptical about.

Sorry it's vague - I don't reveal much about my stories!

But if I'm ever lucky enough to get it published, I'll tell you all about it! (Pretty optimistic aren't I)

WOW, both of your stories sound great - Jule and Firlefanz!

I'm not currently working on a Fantasy tale but I did write the first draft of a dark fantasy novella during November/December that started purely as a FANTASY tale dealing with a whole bunch of creatures featured in Fantasy.

I had a great time writing it and can't wait to return to it for the revisions!

You guys just reminded me of it! emoticon
